Removal of these lower risk asbestos issues is generally permitted by ordinary workmen, though having said this, it is very unusual to find that such ordinary workmen will be insured for asbestos works and many may not even have been on an asbestos awareness course.
Any such asbestos removal may well require the HSE to be notified under the NNLW procedure ~ which the contractors should know about and should take care of.
The site where the asbestos is to be removed from may also need to be registered (as a hazardous waste producing site), with the Environment Agency.
This asbestos removal must ensure that the resulting waste is correctly disposed of and the contractor should then provide an Environment Agency consignment note (otherwise known as a waste receipt), to establish that the asbestos waste has indeed been correctly disposed of.
